Splash Mountain at Disneyland Officially Closes: Here’s What’s Next

A mountain with a log flume going down the water track and trees in front of it.

The iconic Splash Mountain at Disneyland has officially closed its gates, marking the end of a beloved chapter in the park’s history. The fan-favorite log flume ride has been retired to make way for a brand-new adventure: Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, inspired by Disney’s The Princess and the Frog. Which as a Princess and the Frog lover I am very excited about and can’t wait to see this new ride.

Why Is Splash Mountain Closing?

Disney announced the closure as part of its ongoing commitment to inclusivity and storytelling that reflects the diversity of its audience. Splash Mountain, originally themed after the controversial 1946 film Song of the South, has faced criticism for years. The reimagining offers an opportunity to celebrate a modern, empowering narrative with Princess Tiana, Disney’s first Black princess, front and center. I think that this is a great change to be made within the parks, although the historic ride will be missed.

What’s Replacing It?

Get ready to head down to New Orleans! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will take guests on a magical journey through the bayou with catchy music, vibrant animatronics, and plenty of that Disney magic. The ride is expected to open in late 2024, bringing a fresh, culturally rich experience to Critter Country. The different directions this new ride could be taken in are a great cause for excitement.

What Fans Are Saying

Fans are sharing their goodbyes to Splash Mountain with everything from last rides and throwback photos to nostalgic tributes. The hashtag #SplashMountainFinalRide is trending as park-goers reflect on decades of memories.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re sad to see it go or excited for what’s coming next, there’s no denying this is a historic moment for Disneyland ride closures. Be sure to follow along as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure takes shape—it’s bound to be a wild (and musical) ride!
